RTI has worked well and has given enormous powers in the hands of a simple common man. If some public authority misuses his power and does something wrong or abstain himself from doing what he was supposed to do in connection with his official duty, in all such cases, RTI can help.
It is very easy to file a simple RTI application and no special legal knowledge is required for the same but, still we need to consider some points before we seek information under the Right to Information Act, 2005 and a few of such points are discussed hereinafter:
No Personal Vendetta : Never ever use RTI as a weapon just for your private or personal vendetta. If you have any differences with some public authority make sure that you can never satisfy your ego with the help of RTI.
It often happens, many people file frivolous RTI applications seeking such information which is of no use to them just in order to harass public authorities. for e.g. seeking details of someone's personal details which are not meant for disclosure to general public. All i can say is, such RTI applications are often dismissed with costs.

Stay Polite : Make sure, when you are seeking information you are not directing anybody to make available the required data but instead, you are requesting them to provide such information.
It happens normally, let's take this as an example, people may file RTI applications seeking "on what basis you have sent me this huge electricity bill of Rs. 15,000?" but I recommend that we must file RTI application by staying polite and using simple language in our application seeking "Kindly provide all the relevant details of electricity bill of Rs. 15000."

well Drafted Application : The next point is, whatever you write in your RTI application must make sense and you must not be asking something which doesn't even exist. Your application must be well drafted and must contain all relevant details. i.e. details of information sought, brief facts, public authority and PIO concerned, application fee etc.
Your application must be drafted in a way that it seems appropriate to the person concerned that you are genuine seeker. There are specific formats and performas which may be used in filing RTI applications, even RTI act itself give a performa that can be used (for e.g. Form A under The Haryana Right to Information Rules, 2005) but the same is not required to be compulsorily followed in accordance with Law. As far as possible, Seek information point wise if you are seeking information that has many parts.

Keep it concise : while drafting your RTI application make sure that you keep it concise and mention only brief facts of the case. Moreover, many states have made specific rules to make it mandatory and to make sure that people do not write irrelevant details in their application and keep the number of letters limited to an extent.
for e.g. in Haryana, only a few number of letters can be used in a RTI application. However, No RTI application can be rejected on the ground that it contains more letters then as stipulated in the rules applicable to Haryana.
